Sodium laureth sulfate, known as SLES as well, is a detergent widely used in cosmetic products such as shampoos, shower gels, facial cleansers, and even toothpastes, which has the potential to cause cancer. It is also can be found in household cleaning products, for instance, dish detergent. Arghhh~!! This is so freakin’
me out!!
This chemical, sodium laureth sulfate, is found in most shampoos because it produces a lot of lather and foam, and it is cheap. This explains why whenever we are using shampoo or shower gels, bubbles and foams are formed, due to the presence of sodium laureth sulfate!! Sometimes, sodium laureth sulfate is substitute by a stronger cousin called sodium lauryl sulfate, SLS. In fact, sodium lauryl sulfate is used to scrub garage floors, in other word, it is very strong!! These chemicals may be absorbed through the scalp and our skin from shampoos and other personal care products. They can also cause skin and eye irritation. For god sake!! No wonder there are rashes on my arms after my bath few days ago! and last week either! ohh dear~ am I going to have skin cancer soon?? T_____T
There are several shampoos that contain SLES or SLS, including:
- Paul Mitchell,
- Vo5,
- Palmolive,
- L’Oreal, and
- The Hemp Shampoo from Body Shop.
By the way, Colgate toothpaste also contains this chemical to produce bubbles.
So, my dear darlings, go home and check your shampoos. Check the ingredients listed on your shampoo bottles, and see whether they have the substance named Sodium Laureth Sulfate, or Sodium Lauryl Sulfate. *may God bless you all~* (=
